Remove EXIF and GPS from photos
Before you post a photo, see what it says about where and when it was taken. Then remove EXIF, GPS and embedded comments — JPEGs are cleaned without re-encoding the image.
How it works
- Select a JPG or PNG photo.
- Review the metadata the tool found, especially any GPS coordinates.
- Download the cleaned copy. The original stays untouched on your device.
Frequently asked questions
What can a photo reveal?
Typical EXIF includes camera model, lens, exposure, capture time and sometimes GPS coordinates. Screenshots and edited exports often have none; this page only shows what it actually finds.
Does removing metadata reduce quality?
Not for JPEG or PNG here. Known metadata chunks are removed from the file and the image data is left untouched. Some apps re-save and re-compress; this tool does not.
Does it remove the location from the picture?
It removes GPS metadata, not visible places. A street sign, shop front or landmark can still identify where the photo was taken.
Which formats work?
JPG/JPEG and PNG. HEIC, WebP, TIFF and RAW are not handled here; convert HEIC to JPG first, then clean that copy.
Can I get the metadata back?
No. Keep the original file if you may need the information later, and download the cleaned copy separately.
What it can't do
- JPEG and PNG only. HEIC, WebP, TIFF and RAW need another step or tool.
- Removing EXIF does not blur visible details in the photo.
- The tool removes EXIF/XMP/comment chunks; it does not claim to sanitise every possible proprietary block.
